Our local politicians may lack momentum but it is reassuring to learn other islanders do not. We can create an Okanagan Rail Trail on Vancouver Island. Moreover, Vancouver Island has the potential to create the longest, paved, multi-use rail trail in the world. This title is currently held by the Paul Bunyan Trail in Minnestota, USA. It is 193 km long. On Vancouver Island we could create a multi-use, paved rail trail 215 km long. The potential economic benefits for our province and Vancouver Island communities are staggering. Bicycle tourism alone can create thousands of jobs and add millions or billions of dollars to an economy.
